Paperless Post alternatives for a wedding: 5 options compared
Paperless Post charges per guest. Five alternatives for a wedding (Evite, Greenvelope, Joy, Say Yes, Zola), what each costs for 100 guests, with sources.

The short version
- Paperless Post charges per guest on paid designs (listed at $0.50 to $1.44 a guest), so a long wedding guest list is the usual reason couples look elsewhere.
- For about 100 guests, the alternatives range from free (a free design on Joy or Evite) to about $100 (a Greenvelope mailing).
- Greenvelope is the closest alternative in feel: an animated envelope and a flat price per mailing instead of a price per guest.
- Say Yes is ours: $49 once for the invitation, the RSVP, the seating chart and the budget, with no free plan for the invitation and no registry.
Why do couples look for a Paperless Post alternative?
Most couples look elsewhere because of how Paperless Post charges: per guest, on every paid design. Its pricing page lists $0.50 a guest (Basic), $1.05 (Premium) and $1.44 (All Access), and says the price per guest falls as the list grows. A save the date is a separate event, so it is charged again.
Paperless Post still does two things well. Free designs cover the first 50 invitations without a purchase, which suits a small wedding. And it can send matching invitations for the shower, the rehearsal dinner and every other event around the wedding, with RSVP tracking at every level.
| How you pay | About 100 guests | Good for | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Paperless Post | Per guest; free designs for the first 50 invitations | Listed at $0.50 to $1.44 a guest on paid designs | Matching invitations for many events |
| Evite | Free designs; Premium priced per event by guest count | $0 on a free design; $99.99 Premium | A casual wedding on a free design |
| Greenvelope | One price per mailing, by guest count | $99 per mailing | The feel of opening a paper card |
| Joy | Free designs; premium designs paid | $0 on a free design | Spending nothing, with a wedding website |
| Say Yes | One payment per wedding | $49 (Wedding plan, up to 150 guests) | Invitation, RSVP, seating and budget in one place |
| Zola | Website free; invitations printed | Not applicable (no digital invitations) | A registry first, with paper invitations |
Greenvelope: the closest alternative in feel
Greenvelope is the nearest match for couples who liked Paperless Post's paper-card look. Its invitations arrive in an animated envelope with a liner, a stamp and background music, carry no ads, and guests reply without making an account. The price is one flat amount per mailing by guest count: $19 for up to 20 people, $59 for up to 60, $99 for up to 100 and $249 for up to 250.
The catch is the same as with Paperless Post: the save the date and the invitation are separate mailings, so sending both means paying twice, unless you take Greenvelope's yearly membership ($225 a year for mailings of up to 150 guests). Greenvelope's RSVP collects meal choices and dietary notes, sends automatic reminders and feeds a seating chart.
Joy: the free alternative with a wedding website
Joy is the alternative for couples who want to spend nothing. Its wedding website, guest list and online RSVP are free, and it offers hundreds of digital invitation designs that can be sent free, next to premium designs that are paid. The RSVP collects meal choices, and you can remind only the guests who have not answered.
Joy's downsides: seating is done by tagging guests with table numbers rather than on a floor plan, and the most distinctive designs are in the paid range.
Evite: free designs, with Premium priced per event
Evite suits a casual wedding where a free design is enough. Free designs cost nothing to send. Premium designs are priced per event by guest-list size, from $17.99 for up to 12 guests to $99.99 for up to 750, and adding an envelope, a liner or an effect turns the whole invitation Premium.
Evite describes its Premium invitations as ad-free, which tells you the free ones are not. Text-message invitations work for US and Canadian numbers only.
Say Yes: one payment instead of a price per guest
Say Yes (this site) charges once per wedding: $49, $99 or $149, with no subscription and no price per guest. Guests reply on the invitation itself with their party's names and dietary needs; the replies build the guest list, which feeds an interactive floor plan and a budget tied to the confirmed head count. The save the date is free, and the design can be changed after sending without changing the link.
Say Yes's downsides: there is no free plan for the invitation itself, the Wedding plan stops at 150 guests and there is no registry. It is also new, so there are no reviews from couples yet.
Zola: not a digital invitation alternative
Zola's own help pages say it does not offer digital invitations at this time. Zola is an alternative only if what you really want is a free wedding website with online RSVPs and a registry, and you are happy to mail printed invitations that send guests to that website.
