Save the date

A digital save the date: free, in one link

As soon as you know the date, tell the people who matter: an announcement with your names, the date and a live countdown, in the colors of the design you choose. Send it by text or WhatsApp today, and when it is time for invitations, the same link becomes the full invitation with an RSVP.

Timing

When to send a save the date

Early enough for guests to keep the day free, late enough that the date is certain and the venue has signed.

A local wedding in the busy season6 to 8 months before
Guests flying in, or a destination wedding8 to 12 months before
An off-season wedding, guests nearby4 to 6 months before
Fewer than 4 months to goSkip it, send the invitation

The invitation itself goes out eight to ten weeks before the wedding; the details are in our guide on when to send wedding invitations.

How it works

From a date to a sent announcement in minutes

No designer, no printer, no postage. And no new link when it is time for invitations.

Enter your names and the date

Pick one of 35 designs and the announcement takes its colors. It takes a few minutes and no card details.

Copy the link and send it

By text, WhatsApp or email. Guests open it in the browser they already have, with no app and no account.

Guests see the date and a countdown

Your names, the date and a clock counting down to the day, with a line saying the invitation will follow.

The same link becomes the invitation

When you are ready to invite everyone, choose a plan and the full invitation appears at the same address: schedule, maps, calendar and RSVP. Nobody gets a second link.

Wording

What to write with your save the date

Keep it short: who, when, roughly where, and that the invitation will follow. Pick the tone that sounds like you and put in your own names.

Classic"Save the date! Emma and James are getting married on June 12, 2027, in the Hudson Valley. Formal invitation to follow."
Warm"We said yes, and now we would love you to keep June 12, 2027, free for us. We cannot wait to spend the day with you. Invitation to follow."
Short, for a text"📅 Keep June 12, 2027 free for our wedding! More soon. Emma and James"
For guests traveling far"We know it is a long way, so we are telling you early: we are getting married on June 12, 2027, in the Hudson Valley. The invitation, with the schedule and places to stay, will follow in the spring."

What is free, and what comes with a plan

The announcement is free and meant for your closest circle: family and close friends, as soon as you know the date. When you invite everyone, you choose a plan and the same address becomes the full invitation:

  • A schedule of the day, with places and maps
  • Buttons that add the date to Google and Apple Calendar
  • An RSVP form: who is coming, plus ones, children and dietary needs
  • A reminder for anyone who has not replied, in one tap

Plans start at $49, one payment, no subscription. Everything is compared on the pricing page.

One link, two steps
Today, the date and a countdown. In a few months, at the same address, the invitation with an RSVP, so guests never have to look for anything new.
Common questions

All about save the dates

What is a save the date?

A save the date is a short notice of your wedding date, sent before the invitation, so guests can keep the day free and plan any travel or time off. It carries only the essentials (who is getting married and when) and says that an invitation with the details will follow.

When should you send a save the date?

Usually six to eight months before the wedding, and eight to twelve months before for a destination wedding or guests who will fly. If the wedding is less than four months away, skip it and send the invitation, which goes out eight to ten weeks before the day.

Who should get a save the date?

Only people you are certain to invite. A save the date is a promise of an invitation: anyone who receives one will expect the invitation too, so have at least a working guest list before you send it.

Is the digital save the date really free?

Yes. Making and sending the announcement costs nothing and needs no card. The free version is meant for your closest circle. When you are ready to send it to every guest and collect replies, you choose a plan (from $49, one payment) and the same link becomes the full invitation with an RSVP form.

What does the free save the date show?

Your names, the date and a live countdown, in the colors of the design you picked, with a line saying the invitation will follow. The venue, the schedule, the calendar button and the RSVP form arrive with the full invitation.

What if our date changes?

Change it on your dashboard. The link stays the same, so anyone who opens it sees the new date, with nothing to resend or reprint.

Do we still need a printed save the date?

Not necessarily. Printed cards or magnets make sense for a few older guests who do not use their phones much; everyone else gets the digital one instantly. If you do print a few, put your invitation's QR code on them so those guests can still RSVP online.

Is the date settled? Tell them today

Enter your names and the date, choose a design and send the announcement. You decide about the invitation and the RSVP later, on the same link.
